Private Custom Italy Tours in the Dolomites and Trentino-Alto Adige

Not a region that most tourists would immediately identify, but the region of Trentino-Alto Adige is home to the loveliest towns in the Italian Alps and Dolomites. Some of the most scenic mountain terrain in the world is just one of many reasons to visit. Its' dual identity offers a wonderful mix of Germanic and Italian culture, history and food; destinations from remote mountain villages to cosmopolitan cities like Bolzano, Bressanone and Trento; and a vibrant wine scene producing world-class wines. An extensive hiking trail system using ski lifts to take you up and down the steep bits, plus one of the best dedicated bike trail system in Italy - this area offers some of the finest options in Italy for “slow travel”. Kathy and Vernon have created tours here for casuals cyclists; tours for experts looking to conquer the classic climbs; tours with a mix of cycling and hiking, and gourmet hiking tours.

Best activities: All - walking, hiking, cycling.

Best time of year: Late June through mid September. August is high season, and we don’t recommend it.

Visiting off-season: The one difficulty with this region is its short season. The lifts to take you to the upper hiking trails are only open from mid-June to mid-September; the area is very crowded with European tourists during August. Winter travel is possible if you are a skier.
